Even Steven

Even Steven is a warm spirited, guitar driven rock band from cold Finland, Joensuu. The common language of this band revolves around classic rock, adding influences from blues, soul and good music in general. Band’s roots lead to a legendary village of Puhos in Kitee.

In the late summer of 2005, a bunch of guys realized that there was a concerning absence of a real, traditional rock and roll facing them all around, no matter where they turned. It seemed to them that there was a serious demand for less melancholic rock in Finnish music scene. Ilari Malinen (guitar, vocals) had written music that ultimately came to be recorded on their first demo EP. To perform the songs, he had to find players dedicated to the music and capable of working together as a band.

The first one to call was his cousin Timo Timonen (guitar, vocals), who at the time was studying in Joensuu. Timo's brother in arms, Joonas Ojajärvi (bass, vocals) joined the group and the gaps of a super singer and a groovy drummer were filled by Jukka Karppanen (lead vocals) and Jarkko Pohjolainen (drums&percussions).

Even Steven won the RockBirds competition and recorded their debut album Square One, released early 2009. Now the band is looking for gigs to give proper rock kicks!
